The general manager of L.A.'s department of water and power has told a city council committee residents are getting their money's worth from a pair of private trust funds.
Ron Nichols explained that the Joint Safety and Training Institutes give the DWP important advice on how to improve safety and training, and says the cost is a small fraction of overall safety spending.
"We are spending about $115-million a year on training our employees. We're spending about $4-million on the collaboration effort."
The funds are partially controlled by the DWP employee union. The funds are being audited publicly for the first time in 10 years.
